Ready to enjoy the warm outdoors without pesky mosquitos? Last year, we were very lucky that the Zika outbreak in Florida did not migrate into Georgia. However, scientists at University of Georgia recently revealed that more mosquitos in Georgia are capable of spreading the virus than originally thought.
Most scientists - including those at the CDC -
believe Zika is primarily spread by two types of mosquitos commonly found in Florida. However, researchers at University of Georgia recently released findings that over 35 types of mosquitos may be capable of spreading the virus– including seven types of mosquitos found here in Georgia. This new research helps explain why Zika cases pop up in different geographic locations.
Mosquito season starts in the Spring, peaks during the Summer months, and then gradually tapers off in the Fall.
When the temperature stays above 58 degrees, mosquito larvae are sure to hatch. But you can enjoy your time outdoors without being bombarded by mosquitos. Clients who sign up for the Handy Andy Outdoors Mosquito Management Plan can rely on us for consistent mosquito reduction treatments every month, from April through October. Most treatments take thirty minutes to apply and dry in within an hour, so children and pets can return quickly to the yard. And if you’re not home when we apply the treatment, you’ll still know we’ve been there because we’ll leave our signature yard sign.

We all know that mosquitos can be a hassle at best – and a health risk at worst. By reducing the number of mosquitos on your property, you are protecting people and pets from itchy bites as well as potential virus and parasites spread by these pests. But did you also know that:
Mosquitoes fly an estimated 1 to 1.5 miles per hour.
Active people are often more attractive to mosquitoes (because they produce more CO2 and lactic acid, which attract insects).
In fact, some research showed movement increases mosquito bites up to 50%.
A full moon increased mosquito activity 500% in one study.
Dark clothing has been shown to attract some species of mosquitoes more than lighter colored clothing.
